On a hot summer day it's wonderful to sit by a river or stream and put your feet in the water. The water flows by with its infinite variety of swirling currents and eddies, the trees sway in a gentle breeze and the sun makes a pleasantly warm cape.

Fiesta is the third quartet from "Three Entertainments", light-hearted, descriptive vignettes originally for flute and guitar. "Fiesta" is, of course, of a Latin flavour - lots of sunshine and good humour. I imagine it describes a party with good food, dancing and much showing off. If it feels right to add a trill or a glissando, please do so.

As a teacher, I have found that students thrive on the familiar. Here is a way to capitalize on that enthusiasm by using well-known tunes to gradually introduce typical guitar techniques and textures in a progressive way. "Songs of Childhood", Book 1, contains similar treatment of five melodies: Vol. 1 - Themes and Var. 1 - 4; Vol. 2 - Var. 5 - 9.
