A Mighty Fortress Is Our God (German, Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott) is the best known of Martin Luther's (1483 - 1546) hymns. Luther wrote the words and composed the melody sometime between 1527 and 1529. It has been translated into English at least seventy times and also into many other languages. The words are a paraphrase of Psalm 46.

This is a quartet arrangement of a solo vihuela piece by the 16th century vihuelist A. Mudarra. A gallarda (Spanish for galliard) is a lively dance. The ornaments, dynamics and colour changes are editorial as are the notes in brackets, those in part 4 being an optional realization of the bass using low D tuning.
