I've played in many musical combinations over the years, and in my quest to do something a little bit different from the usual groupings and pairings, I recently connected with a wonderful clarinetist and have been enjoying an exploration of this new (to me) musical union. It has been full of surprises and delights, as the clarinet has such a diverse palette of tone colour and dynamic nuance; it's chameleon-like personality makes it able to render many styles of music in a very convincing and authentic manner. Danza Espanola No. 5 - Enrique Granados, arr. K. Krantz

Enrique Granados (1867 - 1916) was a Spanish pianist and composer of classical music. His music is in a uniquely Spanish style and, as such, representative of musical nationalism. Enrique Granados was also a talented painter in the style of Francisco Goya.Granados wrote piano music, chamber music (a piano quintet, a piano trio, music for violin and piano), songs, zarzuelas, and an orchestral tone poem based on Dante's Divine Comedy.

Gently Does It - Gunar Ulrich

"Gently Does it" is a meditative piece for Clarinet and Guitar. The clarinet plays the expressive melody while the guitarist plays sustained, arpeggiated chords throughout. The directions are minimal. The players are asked to play 'gently', giving them the opportunity to find the appropriate balance between the instruments, and to give their interpretation of the ebb and flow of the music. The piece is subtitled....'a meditation'.....the aim is to project a feeling of calm.

Three Catalan Folk Songs - Traditional, arr. K. Love

These traditional Catalan songs (El Testament D’Amelia, L’Hereu Riera, Canço Del Lladre) were arranged for solo guitar by the legendary Spanish guitarist Miguel Llobet. They appear here transcribed and arranged for clarinet and guitar.

El Choclo - Angel Villoldo, arr, K, Krantz 

Ángel Villoldo (1861 - 1919) was an Argentine musician and one of the pioneers of tango. He was born south of the city of Buenos Aires. He was a lyricist, composer and one of the major singers of the era. "El Choclo" (Spanish: meaning "The Ear of Corn" more accurately "The Corn Cob") is a popular song written by Ángel Villoldo, allegedly written in honour of and taking its title from the nickname of the proprietor of a nightclub, who was known as El Choclo. It is probably one of the most popular tangos in Argentina.

No Worries  - K. Love

I wrote this piece with my students in mind - from time to time they enjoy playing something light-hearted and contrasting to the typical Sor/Giuliani/Carulli regimen. And, in truth, if you have your guitar in your hands, how can you be worried?!

Prelude No. 2 - G. Gershwin, arr. K. Love

One of three preludes for piano, this is Gershwin at his blues-y best. The guitar part works very well with the 5th string tuned down to G, and for a big surprise at mm16 and 58, have tune your 6th string down to a low C and play the bass note an octave lower!

Elvira Madigan - W. A. Mozart, arr. K. Krantz

Andante (main theme) from Piano Concerto No. 21, KV. 467 by W.A. Mozart (1756 - 1791). Often called Elvira Madigan after the 1967 Swedish film by Bo Wideberg. The original key is F major.

Nessun Dorma - G. Puccini, arr. K. Krantz)

Giacomo Puccini (1858 - 1924) was an Italian composer whose operas, including La Boheme, Tosca, Madama Butterfly and Turandot, are among the most frequently performed in the standard repertoire. Some of his arias, such as Che Gelida Manina from La Boheme, and Nessun Dorma from Turandot, have become part of popular culture.
