Ponce wrote this prelude at the request of Segovia and they agreed to attribute it to the Baroque lutenist S. L. Weiss as a prank, in much the same way as violinist Fritz Kreisler would attribute his own compositions to famous composers. It sounds quite baroque indeed, with some extra Ponce 'spice'; it is also very rhythmically energetic, playing games with the meter by shifting from 6/8 to 3/4 as well as other ways of manipulating the beat to propel the piece forward in a most jubilant manner.
